Three Marianna men were arrested Sunday afternoon by state police after they allegedly burglarized a neighboring house.
Charged with burglary, conspiracy, theft and attempted theft are Scott R. Shaffer Jr., 21, Gage A. McCartney, 20, and Scott A. Pettit, 46, all of 510 Fourth St.
Police received a call about 1 p.m. of a burglary in progress at an unoccupied home that was for sale at 500 Fourth. When police arrived, they found the front door open but no one inside.
Patricia Jessee told police that she had placed items including a grandfather clock, 10 antique fishing poles, an Amish space heater and binoculars near the front door. The items were gone.
A neighbor told police that he saw McCartney cutting grass, then spotted Shaffer and another man later identified as Pettit enter the house through the front door. The neighbor said the men were in the house for five to 10 minutes, and he could see curtains moving. When McCartney saw the neighbor watching, he allegedly grabbed his cellphone and made a call. The two men then left the house, telling the neighbor they were just checking to make sure no one was inside.
The three men were arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 percentage bonds.
