Alan Vozel, chairman of the covered bridge festival, reported helpers are needed in several areas for both days of the festival, Sept. 21 and 22, especially with the horses.
This is a busy area because the horse and wagon rides are free to the public. Marvin McGallicher volunteered for Saturday.
The ice cream stand will be handled by Ed Chess with the assistance of Bob English and David Jack.
Cassie Menhart will arrange for face painting on both days, which is also free to the public. The Boy Scouts and National Honor Society members will assist crafters and help with other chores Friday and Saturday. They will also assist with tear-down on Sunday.
Dave Hall will handle the sound system for the entertainment which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
The church service will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday with the Rev. Frank Vucic. Dr. Megan Bandish Shirley will be doing special chiropractic scans for people and donations will be given to charity.
Kathy Kerr reported she has sent out applications for the Christmas craft show to be held at the academy Nov. 9 and 10..
It was reported new frames have been installed on the doors and Alan Vozel and Ed Chess volunteered to paint the side porch.
This year, a file cabinet was located that hadn’t been opened for nearly 50 years. Inside were a few academy treasures: a picture and names of those present at a Greene Academy Reunion held Sept. 9, 1955. There were also two classroom pictures identifying students from 1891. People are asked to stop by the academy table in the yard at the covered bridge festival to add a story, and/or offer general information regarding any of these academy students.
Carole Gideon reported she gave a tour of the academy to 65 descendents of the Flenniken family from all over the country. They were very interested in the academy especially since a good many of their pioneer relatives attended school at the academy.
It was reported there will be a wedding at the Academy in October.
Next meeting will be Sept. 24.
