Powell to speak at Cal U. conference
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will be featured as keynote speaker during the 2013 Pittsburgh Diversity and Leadership Conference next week at California University of Pennsylvania. The first African-American chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and secretary of state, Powell will speak to members of the public free of charge at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Cal U. Convocation Center.
Students, alumni and community members will be provided with free admission to the Powell keynote, made available by the National Diversity Council, a nonprofit organization that promotes multiculturalism. Registration for the full daylong conference is $249.
Officials are asking guests to register online and print a complimentary admission pass or visit the Cal U. Convocation Center box office from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
Leading up to Powell’s visit, the university will hold a presentation entitled, “Colin Powell: An International Statesman,” at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 in Eberly Hall, room 110. The presentation, held in honor of Constitution Day, also is open to the public.
Dr. Michael Hummel, professor of leadership and security studies at Cal U., will give the keynote address, featuring highlights of Powell’s career and a discussion of the leader’s philosophic approach.
