A Charleroi man was arrested Wednesday by members of the Washington County sheriff’s fugitive task force after he was spotted on East Main Street in Monongahela.

Deputies initially thought Matthew Davis, 30, of 110 McKean Ave., was someone they were looking for on an outstanding warrant. When they approached him, they said Davis started acting nervous.

When Davis put his hands in his pockets, Deputy Paul Rock Jr. spotted a knife with a 4-inch blade hanging from his belt. When Rock patted him down for officer safety, he also felt a gun. Davis reportedly told the deputy he had a gun in his pocket.

Deputies said they found a loaded 38-special revolver. Davis reportedly told police he did not have a permit to carry the weapon. Deputies said the gun was registered to Davis’ wife.

Davis was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of persons not to possess a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.

He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. He also is wanted on magisterial warrants in Fayette County for failure to pay fines.
