FOX CHAPEL, Pa. (AP) — A 16-year-old western Pennsylvania boy believes he was wrongly suspended from school after the boy realized he had forgotten a hunting knife was in his pocket at a high school football game and turned it over to a security guard.

David Schaffner III says he was setting up a hunting site before last Friday’s Fox Chapel High School football game and forgot that he still had the knife with him. He remembered the knife when he saw a sign prohibiting weapons at the field, so he approached a security guard and gave him the knife.

Schaffner says he was grabbed by the principal minutes later, thrown out of the game and suspended for 10 days on Monday.

The district says it was merely following steps “required by law” but Schaffner’s attorney says he’s being punished for being honest.
