PITTSBURGH (AP) – Newly unsealed court filings in Pittsburgh say a former cyber charter school official used a Florida condominium that’s now a subject of a federal indictment to entertain two university officials in hopes of winning a contract for a separate business he controlled.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Saturday that the Franciscan University officials weren’t swayed. Nicholas Trombetta is accused of buying the condo with some of the more than $8 million he allegedly siphoned from the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School through a network of other companies he controlled.
Trombetta was indicted by a federal grand jury last month. He pleaded not guilty.
A Franciscan University spokesman says federal investigators haven’t contacted the school and a proposed contract between Trombetta’s business and the university wasn’t executed. The meeting was in June 2012.
