Church to hold children’s event
WAYNESBURG – For the third consecutive year, the First Baptist Church of Waynesburg will hold its Touch-A-Truck event for children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the church’s parking lot.
Dawn Mankey, the coordinator, said the event “gives children an opportunity to ‘touch’ vehicles they would otherwise be told not to touch.”
She said there will be fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, tow trucks, a tractor-trailer, a West Penn Power bucket truck, and antique troop carrier truck, two classic cars and more.
Mankey said last year more than 1,000 people from the community turned out for the event and she emphasized this gives children a sense of safety by being able to touch these types of vehicles, many of them emergency vehicles.
In addition to the vehicles there will be games, prizes and food.
Prizes will be given hourly and winners must be present to win.
The grand prizes, which will be drawn at 2 p.m., will include a custom Steelers Ford F150 Power Wheels ride-on toy for children 6 and under, and a $100 Toys R Us gift card for children 7 to 12.
