A North Strabane Township man called police Tuesday after finding a bullet he believes was fired from a gun at a nearby sportsman’s club in his backyard swimming pool.
Mark Rectenwald of 1472 Route 519 told police he was cutting grass Monday just before dark when he noticed that water appeared to be leaking from the swimming pool. When he checked Tuesday, he discovered a hole in his above-ground pool.
Police said a slug fired from a .45-caliber gun was at the bottom of the pool. There also was a graze mark on a sidewalk where it appears the bullet hit before striking the pool.
Rectenwald and police believe the bullet was from a gun fired at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsman’s Club on Linden Road. That property is about 600 yards from Rectenwald’s backyard.
This is the second time in about two years that Rectenwald has found damage from a bullet. On Aug. 26, 2011, he discovered a utility trailer on his property had been hit.
Rectenwald told police he does not want to see the club closed, but does want to have the problem corrected. He told police he planned to talk with a club representative.
Township police Detective John Wybranowski said Wednesday the issue is not being treated as an intentional act. Police suggested that Rectenwald follow up with township officials.
