CALFIFORNA – A professor at California University of Pennsylvania drew from her experiences in the restaurant business and career in newspapers to craft a new novel about the search for an arsonist and making amends with the past.
“The Main Ingredient,” by Margo Wilson centers around three women who become arson suspects after their restaurant is set ablaze and their search for the real criminal to keep themselves out of prison. Along the way they discover things about their pasts that should have been kept secret, and find answers to how far a person should go for friends, family and themselves.
Each chapter of the book, published by Ramsfield Press of Homewood, Ill., opens with a recipe, and as the story unfolds, the women from a small town in the Midwest perfect their lake perch recipe.
Wilson, who is chairman of the Cal U. English department, ran a restaurant with her husband in Wisconsin and spent 20 years working as a newspaper editor and reporter, including stints as a food editor. Her last job in the newspaper business was at the Los Angeles Times.
She will hold a book signing from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Cal U. bookstore in Natali Student Center. A reception and second signing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Center in the Woods on Route 88 near Roadman Park.
