WAYNESBURG – Two of Greene County’s three public pools are in need of qualified individuals to work as lifeguards during the busy summer swimming season. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and possess current lifeguard certification issued by an authorized organization, or be able to attend and pass courses in professional lifeguarding, first-aid and CPR/AED training.

Lifeguards hired for the summer will need to attend a mandatory training session, which will be scheduled prior to the start of the swim season during Memorial Day weekend. A lifeguard certification course and a water safety instructor course will be offered.

Alpha Aquatic Center in Waynesburg and Carmichaels Pool in Carmichaels will open May 24. Hours are subject to change because of staff availability or inclement weather.

The third county pool, Mon View Pool in Greensboro, will undergo an $800,000 renovation project this year and will be closed for the duration of the project. The pool will reopen later this summer once construction is complete.

All pool admission prices will remain the same as last year. County children attending Day Camp will still pay a discounted rate of $2 per day to visit any of the pools during the camp hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 16 to July 25.

Admission prices at the aquatic center are $5 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $7 for adults ages 18 to 61. Aquatic center hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

For Carmichaels Pool, admission is $3 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $5 for adults ages 18 to 61. Carmichaels Pool hours will be 1 to 7 p.m. daily.

The reopening date, admission prices and hours for Mon View Pool will be announced later.

All pools will be closed while school is in session from May 27 through May 30, and will be open daily beginning May 31. Pools will be closed Aug. 25, through Aug. 29, and will reopen Aug. 30 for Labor Day weekend. All pools will close for the season Labor Day, Sept. 1.
