WILKINSBURG (AP) – Authorities in Western Pennsylvania have released the name of a man shot and killed by a police officer after a chase that began in Pittsburgh and stretched into a nearby borough.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 29-year-old Adrian Williams died of gunshot wounds to the trunk after he was shot early Monday in Wilkinsburg.

Police said Pittsburgh officers tried to pull a vehicle over on a traffic violation, but it sped off and entered Wilkinsburg before the suspect fled on foot.

Charles Moffatt, Allegheny County police superintendent, said Williams refused to stop and an officer saw a gun in his hand and fired, killing him.

Moffatt said investigators are trying to determine whether Williams pointed the handgun – a 9 mm Smith & Wesson – at the officer.
