WAYNESBURG – For anyone who may have missed the recent celebration of National Library Week, there are still plenty of reasons to visit the Eva K. Bowlby Public Library.
The children’s department offers nine different story hours during the week to accommodate the very youngest child, Baby Lapsit. There are story hours for toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children and even teenagers, specifically the Teen Advisory Group that meets at 4 p.m. every Wednesday. The library’s annual Tiny Tim Tomato Project is slated for June 3 and is currently registering children ages 2 through 8.
Parents and caregivers can bring their children to story hours and browse the reference room for many new fiction titles, as well as new nonfiction acquisitions. The Bowlby Library makes available to patrons titles from the New York Times’ Bestseller list. A wide assortment of fiction and nonfiction can be found in large print also.
Being a part of the WAGGIN consortia (Washington and Greene Greater Information Network) allows a patron access to more than 800,000 materials. Any cardholder can access his or her account information online, renew items or reserve an item, which also can be delivered to the library for convenient pick-up.
The Family Literacy department offers free after-school tutoring for any school-aged student Monday through Thursday, even during the summer months. Appointments can be also be made for adult tutoring sessions for those who are pursuing a GED, or studying for the ASVAB. Free SAT preparation classes are offered quarterly by the literacy department for high school students.
Need help writing or updating a résumé? Confused about using a computer or tablet? The staff at the library also is available to help with these tasks by appointment. The library also provides a fax service for patrons.
If you haven’t visited the library’s website lately, then you may be missing out on other benefits of being a patron.
