WAYNESBURG – Two men who broke into the house of an Aleppo Township man with whom they apparently had a dispute, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge Tuesday before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman.
Jeremiah Lemoyne Chambers, 36, and Jason Dwight Stern, 38, both of Cameron, W.Va., each pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal mischief. A charge of criminal conspiracy to commit burglary was withdrawn by the prosecution.
Each was sentenced to time served to one year in jail, fined $500 and ordered to pay $3,000 jointly in restitution to the victim, Isaac Stewart. The men have been in Greene County jail since Jan. 23.
A third defendant in the case, Lonnie D. Miller, 40, of Wind Ridge, is scheduled to appear in plea court May 12.
State police responded to Stewart’s home at 873 McCracken Road Jan. 4. Stewart told police someone had broken into his home and said earlier that day he had been threatened by Chambers, Stern and Miller during an incident in Cameron, according to the criminal complaint.
Police said several windows and doors of Stewart’s home were broken and footprints could be observed in the snow around the house.
Police said they had assisted West Virginia police in the incident involving the threat in Cameron and had already talked to Miller at his home at 141 McCracken Road. Miller had denied involvement in the incident involving the threat.
Police returned to Miller house. Stern and Chambers were also at the residence. Police said prints from both Miller’s and Stern’s boots matched those in the snow around Stewart’s house.
While in a state police car, police said Miller and Chambers also indicated they were angry at Stewart for incidents they believe Stewart was responsible for in the past and had wanted to smash his belongings and fight with him.
