GRASYVILLE – American Legion Post 416 of Graysville presented a $1,000 scholarship to Rebecca Phillips, a 2014 graduate of West Greene High School.

Phillips, daughter of Shane and Linette Phillips of Sycamore, will attend St. Francis University this fall where she will be majoring in physician assistant science and participating in cross country and track.

The scholarship, the third for American Legion Post 416, is presented to a West Greene senior who plans to attend a post-secondary school in a degree certification program. The scholarship is based on a 500-word essay about what America means to him or her.

The theme for the essay this year was “How the Constitution Affects Me.”

Applicants had to maintain a minimum grade-point average of 2.75 to be eligible for consideration. The top three candidates were required to attend an interview with the American Legion Scholarship Committee.

Selection of the winning candidate was determined on the interview, essay and a completed application.
