Ohioan hit by rock thrown at car now in rehab hospital

CANTON, Ohio – A northeast Ohio teacher who was severely injured when a rock was dropped on a car on a central Pennsylvania highway moved to a rehabilitation hospital.
Sharon Budd, 52, of Uniontown was riding on Interstate 80 July 10 when a large rock blasted through the windshield and hit her in the face.
She was moved from a hospital in Danville to another nearby with specialties that include treating brain injuries, The Independent in Massillon, Ohio, reported.
Her condition was upgraded from critical to serious July 31, and she was transferred to a Aug. 4 to a nearby rehabilitation facility where she is working with therapists, her husband said.
“I think she is in the right place,” Randy Budd told PennLive.com Sunday. “She is slowly coming along.”
Budd had several surgeries, and part of her brain was removed. She lost sight in at least one eye. Her husband said she can breathe on her own and mouths basic words.
“She is doing so many things we are excited about,” Randy Budd said. “They are little things most people take for granted.”
Four teenagers charged as adults in the rock-throwing are scheduled for preliminary hearings Aug. 19 in the Union County Courthouse in Lewisburg. Brett Lahr, 18, and three 17-year-olds – Dylan Lahr, Tyler Porter, and Keefer McGee – face aggravated assault and other charges.
