Mark Kempic, president of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, the Southpointe-based natural gas distribution company, has been named 2015 campaign chairman for United Way of Washington County’s annual campaign.

Kempic succeeds John Sheehan, chief financial officer at Mylan, the global pharmaceutical corporation also headquartered in Southpointe. The 2014 campaign raised $1,257,277 in Washington County.

With more than 30 years of professional experience in the energy field, Kempic was named president of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvnaia and Maryland in 2012. Previously, he served as Columbia’s director of rates and regulatory policy.

“Increasing awareness of the important work United Way does for our community is my primary objective for this year’s campaign,” Kempic said. “Funding programs and services that address education, financial stability and improved health are critical aspects of a vital community, and I would like to help educate and reeducate Washington County on the outstanding community programs and services that United Way supports. I am also proud to represent Columbia in this capacity. We have a long history of supporting the communities in which we operate.”

In addition to his responsibilities as campaign chairman, Kempic also serves as secretary and policy committee chairman of the local United Way’s board of directors.
