Corbett commits $7M to Pittsburgh trade center

IMPERIAL, Pa. (AP) — Gov. Tom Corbett has announced $7 million in state funds to begin redeveloping an area dotted with former coal mines and a waste dump into an international trade center near Pittsburgh International Airport.
The project would be built on 195-acres near the airport, though site preparation alone is expected to take three years.
Eventually, the site would house office space, corporate jet hangars, a hotel and conference center, and research and development space.
The federal government has already designated the land a Foreign Trade Zone.
Although no private funds have been pledged, Republican and Democrat state lawmakers and county officials hope to attract $200 million in investments to the site.
Officials say several companies have already expressed interest in locating at the site.
