Carroll Township police are investigating a report of an apparent attempted home invasion of a residence on Orchard Lane in the Valley Inn section of the township early Wednesday.
Police Chief Paul Brand said the resident, identified only as a man in his mid-20s, reported hearing a noise at his front door about 2 a.m.
“The resident retrieved his firearm and yelled out that he had a gun,” Brand said. “He then heard two shots being fired outside his home. He then went to his front door, opened it and fired two shots out the door. But he didn’t see anyone.”
Police from Monongahela, Donora and Charleroi Regional arrived to assist township police as they searched the area for possible suspects. No one was found, Brand said.
Township police were searching outside the home late Wednesday morning in an attempt to find casings or any evidence of gunfire outside the home.
“We have not yet been able to confirm any shots have been fired,” Brand said.
Brand said the home is in a rural area of the township.
He reminded residents to keep alert to any strangers in their neighborhoods.
“Keep your doors locked,” Brand recommended. “If you see anything suspicious, call 911.”
Anyone who might have seen suspicious activity in the area of the reported home invasion attempt Wednesday morning is asked to call township police at 724-483-5556.
