Area man pleads guilty to third DUI
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man who pleaded guilty to his third driving under the influence of alcohol offense in the last 10 years was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Farley Toothman to 6 to 23 months in jail.
Gregory Lee Switalski, 38, of 127 Noaks Hill Road, pleaded guilty July 15 to DUI, five summary traffic violations, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property. A charge of driving while his operating privileges were suspended or revoked was dismissed with the consent of the commonwealth, the order said.
Switalski was arrested by state police March 8, 2013, on Gas Company Road in Perry Township. Police were behind his vehicle and noticed a brake light on his car was not working. They checked his plate, found the plate was stolen and pulled him over.
Police found open alcohol containers in his vehicle and a metal pipe with marijuana residue in his possession. He told police his license was suspended. Tests indicated a blood-alcohol content of 0.083 percent.
Switalski will serve his jail time after completing a sentence he is now serving in West Virginia. He will be permitted work release during his Greene County sentence. He also was ordered to pay $1,125 in fines.
