MASTONTOWN – Members of the Rices Landing Town and Country Garden Club held their August meeting at the Lardin House Inn in Masontown and toured the flower, herb and vegetable gardens on the premises.

The walking tour featured the flower garden of edible flowers used for garnishing various entrees and desserts the chef prepares. Other flowers in the garden included day lilies and hydrangeas; and fruit trees such as apple, pear, peach and fig. The herbs in the garden were basil, dill, thyme, marjoram, oregano, parsley and lavender. These herbs are incorporated into the chef’s specialty dishes.

Dinner featured a portobello grilled mushroom filled with mozzarella, tomato and basil. Dessert choices were macerated strawberries in balsamic vinegar with honey and basil over ricotta cheese, or a crème brule infused with lavender.

Chef Bill Aupperle is owner of the Lardin House and specializes in the preparation of various cuisines. His weekly radio program is on WMBS 590 am at 10:20 am.

The Town and Country Garden Club business meeting concluded the evening.
