A Washington man was arrested Wednesday night by city police after he allegedly tossed a gun that he reportedly pulled on another person in the city’s West End.

Ronny Johnson, 21, of 1440 Allison Ave., was arrested on charges of person not to possess a firearm, tampering with evidence and disorderly conduct.

Police initially received a report from a caller who claimed that a black man wearing a gray shirt and with dreadlocks pulled a gun on him near the intersection of Addison Street and Baird Avenue. The caller left the scene before police arrived.

A man matching the description, later identified as Johnson, was seen walking on McCarrell Avenue near Hoge Alley, about a block and a half from the original location. Johnson was sweating profusely, police said.

Johnson was walking on the inside of the sidewalk near an area covered with vegetation. Robert Walker Jr., 38, of Washington, was reportedly walking with Johnson.

Police patted both men down for officer safety and checked for warrants before they were released.

A few minutes later, another officer found a .32-caliber revolver in the weeds along the sidewalk.

Police looked for Walker and Johnson, finding them walking in the 700 block of Ewing Street. As they approached, Johnson reportedly ran east on Ewing. Police used a Taser, hitting him in the back, to stop him. Walker also ran, but was caught in the 700 block of Broad Street.

Johnson was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson and placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing will be held Sept. 12 before Redlinger. Walker was charged with disorderly conduct and released.
