Jumper threat closes Pittsburgh highway for hours

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Officials in Pittsburgh closed part of a major interstate for hours while trying to coax down a man who threatened to jump from a sign onto the highway.
The outbound lanes of Interstate 376 in Green Tree reopened Saturday morning after authorities convinced the man to get into the bucket lift of a fire truck.
An image from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation traffic camera showed the man on the ledge of the sign for Exit 67. The sign is attached to an overpass about 20 feet above the road, which is also called Parkway West.
Traffic was rerouted for more than three hours during the road closure.
Green Tree police chief Bob Downey tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review it’s not clear why the man was threatening to jump.
