Greene man faces burglary charges
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly broke into an apartment downstairs from his and was confronted and chased by the woman who lived there.
George William Patterson Jr., 54, of 54 S. Church St., was charged by Waynesburg Borough police with robbery, burglary, possessing instruments of crime, disorderly conduct and harassment.
He was arraigned before District Judge Glenn Bates and placed in Greene County jail on $20,000 bond.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 8.
Police were called to the Church Street address at 7:43 p.m. for a burglary in progress.
The 911 dispatcher reported the occupant of the apartment, Kaitlynn Kerby, was chasing a man she had found in her apartment when she arrived home.
Kerby told the dispatcher she had found a man wearing a black mask and black gloves in her bedroom. When she started to call 911 for help, the man allegedly attempted to take her cellphone, she later told police.
Kerby told the dispatcher the man had fled and she was chasing him on Cherry Alley in an area behind the Waynesburg Hotel, according to the criminal complaint filed by Officer Jorel Hanley.
Hanley said he and Officer Nicholas Rennie were reponding to the scene when the dispatcher told them the woman was “now screaming for help.”
Hanley said, when he and Rennie arrived, they heard Kerby screaming.
They also saw a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black mask and black gloves. The man, identified as Patterson, was arrested without incident.
He was found in possession of a small crow bar, the complaint said.
