Miss Rain Day starts holiday program
WAYNESBURG – Miss Rain Day 2014 Morgan Voithofer knows firsthand how nursing home residents can be forgotten during the holidays.
Her mother, Heather, is the assistant activity director at Golden Living Center in Waynesburg, and Voithofer has spent numerous occasions visiting patients or singing to them over the years when she stopped in to visit with her mother.
For her individual Miss Rain Day service project, Voithofer wanted to help the residents at Golden Living Center have a happier holiday, so she came up with “Gifts for Golden Living” – an angel tree project for the permanent residents.
Many residents find themselves alone during the holidays or without any gifts from loved ones. Voithofer feels strongly that “everyone deserves to smile on Christmas.”
Although the angel tags were quickly claimed, donations for the program are needed and appreciated. Stocking stuffer ideas include socks (preferably white crew), throw blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, nightgowns, woman’s button down sweaters in various sizes, sweatpants in various male and female sizes and small CD players.
Any type of donation is useful and appreciated. Unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at Golden Living Center, 300 Center Avenue, Waynesburg, PA 15370 no later than Dec. 17. Indicate the item is for the Miss Rain Day Project with attention to Heather Voithofer.
Meanwhile, Golden Living Center Activity Director Jill Wolfe said, “Morgan has been volunteering (here) for several years at this facility. We have always been happy to support her and it is so wonderful that she continues to give back to us by placing her tree here to make the residents’ Christmas a lot brighter.”
The Christmas party for the residents is scheduled for Dec. 20 at Golden Living and Voithofer will be present to help distribute the gifts and sing Christmas carols.
