McDonald police obtained an arrest warrant Monday for a former McDonald man suspected of stealing items from several vehicles in the McDonald and Robinson Township area earlier this year.
Jarrett Matthis Short, 20, whose last known address was Station Street, is charged with 10 counts each of theft, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night. While searching his apartment after he was arrested in September for an alleged robbery at the Subway in McDonald, police found a journal in which he referenced stealing from cars.
Items stolen from vehicles included cash, a briefcase, wallets, purses, an iPad and iPod Touch, global positioning units, credit and gift cards and electronic chargers. The value of the items stolen was about $4,300.
Short denied knowledge of any of the thefts when asked by police. Short claimed his grandparents gave him one of the gift cards and the ring belonged to his girlfriend. Police later determined his grandparents never gave Short the gift cards.
Police also said the car used in the Subway incident matched a description of the vehicle seen in the area of the thefts.
Short is awaiting trial on charges including theft and receiving stolen property for the Subway incident. Charges of burglary and robbery were withdrawn and he waived his case to court on the remaining charges. The new charges against Short are filed at the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
