VFW lends a hand to Waynesburg police
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg Borough police Chief Rob Toth said it felt like an early Christmas Tuesday when Waynesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793 presented his department with a new bulletproof vest and humane raccoon cage. Toth was at the VFW helping them with an investigation when he was asked if there was anything the police department needed.
“I told them I was overdue on a vest by about a year,” Toth said. “They already gave so much to our country as veterans and they continue to give to our community. We can’t thank them enough.”
Officers received calls in the past about wild animals, such as raccoons, and the cage will help them to safely capture and release them, Toth said. VFW officers purchased the cage from the Waynesburg Agway store, noting it was made in the United States and they supported a local business buying it there. The combined purchases of the vest and cage saved the police department roughly $800.
