Two men face charges including felony criminal mischief for a rash of vandalism last month in Independence Township.

Jason Ritter, 18, of 81 W. Main St., West Middletown, and Zachary Thompson, 19, of 2269 Jefferson Ave., Washington are accused of doing at least $5,000 in damage to vehicles, signs, buildings and bridges in the township after investigators received a tip about their alleged involvement, McDonald police said.

Some of damage was reported to police by township Supervisor Thomas Jennings Nov. 30.

The two reportedly told police that they were bored so they allegedly took cans of spray paint from Ritter’s home. They allegedly used the paint to write obscenities, racial slurs and the initials of the Ku Klux Klan on the property. One car was spray painted on the hood and trunk as well as both sides.

Officer Richard France said the vandalism was random, that neither Ritter nor Thompson knew any of the victims they targeted with the spray paint.

The charges, which will also include loitering and prowling at night and disorderly conduct, will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Ethan Ward.
