Allegheny Health part of Olympic medical network

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Western Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Health Network is one of six health care providers nationwide that can be used by Olympic athletes under the U.S. Olympic Committee’s National Medical Network.
The USOC network was founded last year to provide medical care to Olympic and Paralympic athletes near their home towns.
Wednesday’s announcement means the seven-hospital network owned by Pittsburgh-based insurer Highmark Inc. can be accessed by U.S. Olympians. About 150 Olympic athletes live in the hospital network’s coverage area.
The five other USOC medical network participants are the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City; Memorial Hospital at the University of Colorado; the Colorado Center of Orthopedic Excellence in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Adirondack Health of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; and Lake Placid Sports Medicine in Lake Placid, N.Y.
