While some drivers did not have any problems on local roads during their travels Wednesday, more than a half-dozen other motorists were not quite as lucky.

Police in Chartiers, North Strabane and South Strabane townships responded to several crashes in their jurisdictions with damage to vehicles but few injuries.

“The roads may look OK and what may look wet is actually an icy spot,” said Chartiers police Chief James Horvath. “And that will happen as long as there is this cold weather.”

South Strabane police were called to five crashes of varying degrees starting at 8 a.m. through about 6 p.m.

Katherine Balson, 1989 E. Beau St., Washington, was slightly injured when her vehicle struck a hillside along Davis School Road and rolled over. She told police she would seek treatment on her own.

Ryan Sicchitano, 174 Country Club Road, Washington, was injured when his vehicle slid on ice and struck a tree in the 400 block of Country Club Road.

Kristen Chase, 349 Clark Ave., Washington, was injured when her vehicle went off the 1500 block of Route 136 and hit a utility pole.

Adrianna M. Perri, 1091 E. National Pike, Washington, was not injured when her vehicle hit a sign in the 2000 block of East Maiden Street. Ryan J. Minteer, 104 Conestoga Drive, Venetia, was not injured when his vehicle hit a utility pole.

In Chartiers Township, Renee Susko of 109 Summit Circle, Houston, escaped injury when her vehicle slid off West Country Barn Road at Fair Meadow Drive and hit a fire hydrant.

Also in Chartiers, Alan W. Fullerson, 61, of 417 Prospect St., Midway, was not hurt when his vehicle hit an icy spot in the 700 block of Route 519 (Western Avenue) as he drove north. His vehicle struck and embankment, rolling over and coming to rest on its wheels.

North Strabane police responded to two crashes in just over 10 minutes Wednesday morning. Dylan W. Ritchie, 21, of Big Lake, Texas, was not injured when the work truck he was operating for FMC Technologies of Canonsburg slid on icy McBride Road about 8:18 a.m., hit a tree, crossed into the oncoming lane and went over an embankment, hitting several more trees.

Jason Marciniec, 32, of 603 Hunting Creek Road, North Strabane, was not injured when his vehicle crashed about 8:30 a.m. on McDowell Lane. His vehicle slid on heavy ice, hitting a mailbox and garbage cans before hitting a parked vehicle. The damaged vehicle and property belonged to Christopher Durilla, 259 McDowell.

In comparison to Wednesday when school districts either operated on a two-hour delay or closed, just four had delays Thursday morning. More snow is expected over the weekend.
