A two-car crash on Interstate 79 near the Meadow Lands exit seriously injured one driver and snarled southbound traffic for more than an hour Monday morning.

A woman lost control of her vehicle near the exit shortly after 9:15 a.m., and another car crashed into her before both vehicles drove into a guardrail, South Strabane fire Chief Scott Reese said.

The driver of the sedan was transported by ambulance to Washington Hospital with head and neck injuries, Reese said. The sport-utility vehicle’s driver was able to eventually drive away, Reese said. He did not release the names of the two drivers involved in the crash.

The crash caused extensive delays as crews closed one southbound lane, backing up traffic to the Houston exit.

State police are investigating the crash.
