Miss Greene County Pageant fast approaching

WAYNESBURG – Eleven local young ladies will compete in the 24th annual Miss Greene County Pageant at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 in the auditorium of Waynesburg Central High School.
This year’s theme is “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
The pageant is sponsored by Consol Energy, Inc. and the Greene County commissioners, and presented by the county Department of Recreation.
The age categories in this year’s pageant are as follows: Petite Miss, 5 to 7 years; Junior Miss, 8 to 11 years; and Young Miss, 12 to 14 years.
Age categories are determined by the age of the contestant on the day of the pageant.
A queen and a first runner-up will be awarded in each age category.
During the pageant, each contestant will be judged on her photo and modeling of sportswear and formal wear. All age categories are required to perform a talent routine, and Young Miss contestants will also be judged on interviews conducted prior to the pageant.
All contestants are eligible for the Director’s Award, which will be presented to the contestant who sells the most in advertising sponsorships.
The value of the award is up to $300.
Pageant rehearsal will be Feb. 22 in the high school auditorium and is mandatory for all contestants.
Petite Miss contestants must arrive by 9 a.m., and Junior Miss and Young Miss contestants must arrive by 10 a.m.
On the day of the pageant, Young Miss contestants must be present by noon, and all other contestants must be present by 12:45 p.m.
Doors open to the public at 1 p.m. Admission to the pageant is $5, and a pageant booklet showcasing all the contestants costs $15.
The reigning Miss Greene County queens are Tiny Miss, Alexis Hooper of Jefferson; Petite Miss, Annalise Willis of Mather; Junior Miss, Joelle Pahanish of Jefferson; Young Miss, Alexis Bamberger of Wind Ridge; and Teen Miss, Amanda Frampton of New Freeport. Each of the five queens received a trophy, crown, sash, bouquet and prize.
In addition to Consol Energy, Inc., and the Greene County commissioners, pageant sponsors include Alpha Natural Resources, Community Bank, Greene County Sheriff Brian Tennant, Hoy’s Construction, Rhodes and Hammers Printing and Walmart.
