YORK (AP) – Central Pennsylvania firefighters rescued a 9-year-old boy who was locked in a safe at a store.

York fire Chief David Michaels told The York Dispatch the boy crawled into the safe on display at Tractor Supply Co. on Saturday and his sister shut the door, locking him in.

Michaels said part of the safe’s locking mechanism had been removed and once firefighters reattached it, they were able to open the door and free the trapped boy.

Rescuers said he appeared to be unfazed by the ordeal and talked to firefighters through the locked door for the 10 minutes it took to get him out.

An ambulance was dispatched but the boy did not require medical treatment.
