A Fayette County man awaiting trial in Washington County Court on accusations he assaulted a detainee while working last year as a California Borough police officer was fired from the force last week.
California council Thursday voted unanimously to dismiss Justin T. Shultz, 29, of Connellsville, borough records confirmed.
Borough police charged Shultz with official oppression and simple assault Jan. 10, accusing him of mistreating a man awaiting processing in a robbery case in the California holding cell Nov. 9.
Shultz is free on $2,500 unsecured bond, and his case has been assigned to Judge John F. DiSalle. Court records do not indicate that he has retained an attorney.
