Physician certified in sleep medicine
WAYNESBURG – The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Inc. announced that Dr. Richard Ajayi, a full-time psychiatrist at Southwest Regional Medical Center, has successfully passed the board certification examination for sleep medicine.
This certification demonstrates Ajayi’s competence and training in each of the six core competencies of patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, systems-based practice and practice-based learning.
The certification also demonstrates Ajayi’s commitment to improving the quality of specialized sleep medicine practices. This certification renders Ajayi triple-board certified. He also holds certifications in addictive medicine and psychiatry.
“Many do not realize that sleep disorders contribute greatly to mental health issues,” said Ajayi. “By effectively evaluating, diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, we can effectively improve the mental well being and quality of life for many patients, often without the use of medication.”
