Dem candidates for Pa. gov square off in debate

HARRISUBURG – Democratic candidates for Pennsylvania governor squared off Friday night for their first debate since the release of polls showing Tom Wolf as front-runner.
Six of the seven candidates showed up for the two-hour debate at the Pennsylvania Progressive Summit at a downtown hotel in Harrisburg – Wolf, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, state Treasurer Rob McCord, former state environmental protection secretaries John Hanger and Katie McGinty and Lebanon County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz.
Former state Auditor General Jack Wagner declined to participate, citing other commitments.
Two independent polls released Wednesday, following a monthlong TV advertising blitz by Wolf, suggested the nomination might be his to lose. One showed Wolf as the strongest candidate against Republican Gov. Tom Corbett in the general election, the other showed him comfortably leading the primary race.
