NEW CASTLE (AP) – Authorities in western Pennsylvania said a man died in a house fire overnight.

Fire officials in Lawrence County say the blaze was reported in the New Castle residence at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Assistant fire chief Tom Bulisco said the blaze broke out on the second floor of a two-story home. He said crews found heavy fire in the front room and a lot of smoke.

Officials said firefighters got the 61-year-old man out of an upstairs bedroom and rushed him to Lawrence Hospital, where was pronounced dead shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities said an autopsy is planned. The name of the victim hasn’t been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
