WAYNESBURG – Under what Greene County Judge Farley Toothman referred to as “unique circumstances” stemming from the recent firings of Greene County sheriff’s deputies, a Perry Township man was required to report to the Greene County jail of his own accord following his sentencing Friday.

Logan Cory Ice, 21, formerly of Mt. Morris, received 18 months to 5 years in jail on charges relating to multiple arrests.

“Because of unique circumstances, this court does not have deputy sheriffs available for your transport; otherwise you would be transported by them to the jail,” Toothman said, noting the absence would continue until “sometime in the future.” Ice’s failure to report by 2 p.m. Friday would result in a bench warrant for his arrest, Toothman said.

Ice pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to aggravated assault, three counts of theft by unlawful taking, three counts of receiving stolen property, simple assault, criminal conspiracy to commit theft and burglary of an unoccupied structure. In addition to jail time, Ice was ordered to pay $1,500 in fines, plus fees, costs and restitution prior to completing his sentence.

Ice is also required to perform 225 hours of community service.

The charges were the result of a Sept. 22, 2012, burglary of a residence located at 248 Big Shannon Run Road, Mt. Morris; a Dec. 20, 2012, robbery at the BFS store, 139 Locust Ave., Mount Morris; and a Dec. 23, 2012, robbery at the Huddle House Restaurant, 106 Gas Company Road, Mt. Morris.

On Sept. 22, Ice used a ladder to gain entry to the second floor of a residence owned by Daniel Johnson.

A Playstation 2 game system and games were stolen from Johnson’s residence.

Toothman ordered Ice to have no further contact with Johnson or his son, Daniel, a friend of Ice.

On Dec. 20, BFS store clerk Diamond Riley told police a man, later identified as Ice, came into the store wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, mask and latex gloves and presented her with a note demanding money.

Riley said Ice held a black and silver handgun.

She gave him $238.66 cash and he fled the store.

Ice is ordered to pay restitution to the store in the amount of $238.66 and to have no contact with Riley.

He is permanently banned from the BFS store at 139 Locust Ave.

On Dec. 23, Ice committed a staged robbery at the Huddle House Restaurant with the help of Timothy Alan Gamble, II, of Pentress, W.Va., an employee there. Gamble pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking.

He was sentenced to 18 months probation.

Gamble was behind the cash register when Ice entered wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mask. Brandishing a gun, he demanded money from Gamble who gave him $421 from the cash register and $30 in tip money.

Ice fled the scene and went to Waynesburg to purchase heroin with the stolen money, police said.

Ice told them he used all of the cash with the exception of Gamble’s tip money, which he later returned to him with some of the heroin he purchased. Ice said he threw the gun into Lake Wilma in Blacksville, W.Va., and burned the clothes he was wearing.

He is ordered to split restitution to the Huddle House of $421 with Gamble, and is permanently banned from the restaurant property.

Ice received credit for time already served of 93 days.
