NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. (AP) — The driver of a car has died after witnesses tell police it spun into the path of a school bus in western Pennsylvania.

New Kensington police Chief Thomas Klawinski confirmed the death in the crash Friday morning near Valley High School, about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Although the crash occurred on Route 366 near the high school, the bus was from the Highlands School District in neighboring Allegheny County and was taking students to a vocational school in Monroeville, several miles away. The crash was reported about 10 a.m.

Klawinski says the car was northbound when it drove into the path of the southbound bus. The driver of the bus was also taken to a hospital for unspecified treatment.

The students weren’t hurt and were being taken back to Highlands High School. Their parents have been notified.
