WAYNESBURG – With the temperatures today in the low single digits, and a wind chill expected to hit minus 32, residents of Greene County in need of extra warmth can head to one of three shelters that will be open through Wednesday.

The three emergency shelters were open Monday and will remain open around the clock through Wednesday, said Greg Leathers, director of the Greene County Emergency Management Agency. The three shelters are New Freeport Fire Hall on Deep Valley Road in New Freeport; Clarksville Christian Church at 330 Market St., Clarksville; and Carmichaels Activity Center, 100 Nemacolin Road, Carmichaels.

Those who are unable to make it to any of the three centers are urged to call 724-852-2911, the Greene County Emergency Management Agency office. Arrangements have been made at 19 other locations throughout the county that can be opened on an “as needed” basis, Leathers said.

The centers at the 19 other locations will not be manned around the clock so it is important for those who may need them to call the emergency management office, he said.
