A Washington man already in Washington County jail awaiting trial on charges including fleeing from police and reckless endangerment is now facing additional charges for allegedly burglarizing a Morris Township barn last month.

Robert W. Noble Jr., 49, whose last known address was 475 Addison St., is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday before District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing items valued at $2,866 from a barn adjacent to the residence of Daniel K. Phillips, 496 Plumsock Road.

Phillips told police last month that Noble was an acquaintance whom he would allow to remove scrap metal from his property. He made arrangements for Noble to remove some scrap Dec. 3. Since Phillips was away on a hunting trip, he had some friends monitor Noble as they sat in nearby tree stands.

Noble and another man reportedly stole two ladders, only to return them later that day. When Phillips returned from his trip, he discovered items were stolen from the barn. He called Noble, who reportedly blamed the other man but then asked Phillips not to call police and said he would repay him.

The other man, who was not charged, told police that Noble kept telling him Phillips was a friend so he did not think there was anything amiss. He also told police that Noble sold the scrap and was using the proceeds to buy drugs.

Noble was taken into custody Dec. 12 by South Strabane Township police after allegedly stealing a television from Walmart, Trinity Point, and then crashing into four vehicles while fleeing the parking lot. At the time, Noble was wanted on a warrant obtained by state police on a charge of theft for allegedly stealing items from a barn in Independence Township.

On Dec. 23, he waived charges of reckless endangerment, retail theft and fleeing from police to court in connection with the Walmart incident. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday before Ward on the theft charge. Noble is in jail on $50,000 bond.
