Man charged with DUI sentenced

WAYNESBURG – A Carmichaels man who earlier pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol was sentenced Monday by Greene County Judge Farley Toothman to 72 hours to 6 months in jail.

Michaes Alan Lewis, 49, of 315 Green Valley Road, was arrested by Cumberland Township police July 19.

Police said Lewis was attempting to stop his motorcycle at a stop sign on Route 21 at West George Street when he lost his balance and the motorcycle, Lewis and a passenger fell over.

Lewis showed signs of impairment when give a field sobriety test. His blood-alcohol level was determined to be 0.191 percent. He pleaded guilty to the charge Dec. 18.

Lewis was fined $1,000 and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service. Citing Lewis’s responsibility to his business and his mother, Toothman allowed Lewis to serve his 72-hour jail sentence on three Tuesdays in January, reporting each of the days at between 8 and 9 a.m. and staying for 24 hours.
