• Action: The board approved an estimate from COM-TEC Security System to upgrade the jail security system at an approximate cost of $100,000, action which the county commissioners also took Thursday. The update will be paid for from part of the county’s allocation of the Marcellus Shale Act 13 impact fee.

At the request of the county purchasing department and jail Warden John Temas, the prison board and commissioners also agreed to seek bids for the replacement of digital video recorders, mounting and wiring and the addition of 35 cameras, and for uniforms.

• Reorganization: All officers were re-elected. They are Commission Chairman Larry Maggi, prison board chairman; Commission Vice Chairman Diana Irey Vaughan, prison board vice chairman; and Controller Michael Namie, secretary.

• Attendance: District Attorney Gene Vittone was absent.

• Next meeting: 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22 in the seventh-floor conference room of the Courthouse Square office building.

• Action: The commissioners granted a 3 percent raise to the firm of Goldfarb, Posner, Beck, DeHaven and Drewitz, county solicitor, bringing annual compensation to $122,988.

Because attorney L. Dawn Haber, child custody officer, exceeded last year’s calendar year allocation by $500, the board agreed, at the request of court administration, to increase her contract amount to $22,000 from the previous $21,500.

Travel to Huntsville, Ala., by Jonathan Madaras, geographic information systems manager of the public safety department, to attend Intergraph/CAD System Administration Boot Camp, estimated at $968, was approved.

Attorney Heike E. Mills was appointed chairman of the Washington County Farmland Preservation Board, replacing Sam Minor, who resigned as a board member.

• Announcement: County offices will be closed Jan. 20 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

• Next meeting: 10 a.m. Jan. 23 in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building.
