A Pittsburgh man is in Washington County jail and his alleged accomplice taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital after the two reportedly robbed the second man’s father early Saturday.

Thomas Shaun Nolle, 31, along with Jacob Riggans, 38, of North Charleroi, are accused of robbing Edward Riggans Jr. at his home at 440 Olive Ave., North Charleroi, about 12:45 a.m. during the incident, Edward Riggans stabbed Jacob Riggans in the right thigh.

Charleroi Regional police were called to the home for a stabbing. When police arrived, they said they found Edward Riggans Jr. holding a knife. His shirt sleeves were soaked in blood, according to police. He told police he had stabbed his son in self defense.

Edward Riggans told police he was tackled to the ground and was able to see a man he only knew as “Shaun,” punching him and demanding car keys and money. When Edward Riggans asked why he was doing it because he did not know him, his son responded, “That’s why he is here, because you don’t know him.”

Jacob Riggans reportedly threw his father’s cellphone across the living room after Edward Riggans tried to call 911. Jacob Riggans also held his father down while Nolle gathered the money, police said.

Nolle reportedly stole $65, a debit card and other cards from Edward Riggans. He then yelled at Jacob Riggans to get out of the house with him. Police said Edward Riggans told police his son would not let go. The father and son struggled into the kitchen where Edward Riggans grabbed a knife and stabbed his son. When the younger Riggans fell to the ground, his father ran into the living room and used the house telephone to call 911.

Nolle and Jacob Riggans went to a house on McKinley Road. Police said they found blood on the door knob. The resident told police the two had been there, but left because she did not want to be involved.

Police then received information the two were walking up Craven Hill and were taken into custody by Carroll Township police. Nolle admitted going to the home of Jacob Riggans because his alleged accomplice wanted to rob his father. Nolle told police he hit Edward Riggans, but was trying to get Jacob Riggans off his father.

A Charleroi officer was outside the room where Jacob Riggans was being treated at Monongahela Valley Hospital. The officer heard Riggans tell a nurse “We tried robbing my dad and he stabbed me.”

Nolle was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of robbery, conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and harassment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 21 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.

Charleroi Regional police could not be contacted Saturday to determine when Jacob Riggans would be charged or if his father faces charges in the stabbing.
