O-R seeks location, additional details about brothers’ business

“Andy Bros. Service Station” is clearly lettered on the windows of this building, but that’s all we know about this week’s Mystery Photo from the Observer-Reporter’s photo archive.

The picture had to be taken no earlier than the late 1930s, judging by the car. But exactly when this station opened and operated, and where it was, are unknown.

There is no listing for such a business in the Washington city directories of that era.

The background in the photo might offer a clue: It looks dark and barren. Andy is not an uncommon name in these parts, so perhaps a family member might have some information on the two men – presumably the brothers – standing in the picture.

If you think you can help us solve this puzzle, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter.com, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400. With a little luck and some help from our readers, we’ll be able to solve this mystery and publish our findings next Monday.
