CORAOPOLIS, Pa. (AP) — The Allegheny County district attorney’s office has charged the former president of a western Pennsylvania volunteer fire company with stealing nearly $5,800 from various fundraisers, or by using the department’s credit card to buy gasoline and pizza for himself.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 56-year-old Chester Yurkovic, of Findlay Township, who was scheduled to surrender on the charges filed Monday.

A criminal complaint indicates Imperial Volunteer Fire Department officials suspected Yurkovic of stealing and photographed money he was supposed to deposit from a T-shirt sale. He was suspended in February after $650 was missing from what should have been an $856 deposit.

Detectives say Yurkovic stole a total of $5,779 from the fire company between 2011 and when he was suspended as president.
