State police are investigating a report that an attempt was made to lure a 3-year-old boy from outside an Ellsworth business Sunday night, while another department determined a similar incident reported last week was not a luring attempt.
The boy in Ellsworth was outside Chuck’s Deer Processing, 1000 Almond Road, just before 7:30 p.m. when a white man driving a newer-model silver minivan, possibly a Chevrolet, pulled into the parking lot.
Police said the man reportedly opened the driver’s door and said to the boy, who was standing alone outside the building, “Come here, I have a present for you.” The boy ran back inside the building, where family members were.
The van was last seen by the boy’s father, speeding away south on South Main Street in Ellsworth, police said.
North Strabane Township police have identified the man who approached an 11-year-old girl who was waiting for her school bus Jan. 6. The older white man driving a pickup truck pulled into the girl’s driveway about 10 a.m. and asked if she had missed her school bus. The girl backed away from the truck and told him she had not missed her bus.
Township police Detective John Wybranowski said it was determined the man was merely checking on the girl because she was standing outside in the cold. The detective said there was no criminal intent.
Anyone with information on the Ellsworth incident is asked to call police at 724-223-5200.
