The state police fire marshal is investigating a fatal fire Tuesday morning in Center Township.

Ruth E. Larimer, 83, was found dead on the back porch of her trailer at 109 Cole Hollow Road. A call about a fire with possible entrapment was placed to the Greene County 911 dispatcher at 2:32 a.m.

According to Greene County Emergency Management, six volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Her daughter, Susan Larimer, 58, escaped with no injuries. The cause of death is pending an autopsy that was to be performed Tuesday afternoon in Pittsburgh, according to Mary Lewis, chief deputy coroner for Greene County.

Lewis said Susan Larimer told investigators she heard a crackling sound and got up to see smoke filling the trailer. Larimer said she began to yell for her mother and looked for her but could not find her.

Ruth Larimer was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:26 a.m.
