WAYNESBURG – “2nd Sam 9, Inc. is the latest addition to our partner agency list and it will be a great organization to help us with the mission of United Way,” said Barbara Wise, executive director of United Way.

This program is an adult day program for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Its mission is to provide safe, enriching day activities in a positive, Christ-centered environment that will help the clients to reach their fullest social, emotional and vocational potential.

“We believe everyone has value, as well as unique God-given gifts and talents to share and that all are equal in God’s sight,” said Scott Roberts, founder of 2nd Sam 9.

The name “2nd Sam 9” is based on the story of Mephibosheth in the Old Testament book, II Samuel, Chapter 9 where an individual with a disability was given a place of honor in the home of King David as an act of kindness.

“We have been in operation for a little over a year and the day program includes activities of social time, life skills training, pre-vocational activities, music and crafts, Bible lessons and prayer, exercise, community outings and more” said Roberts.

“Our current goal is to get the word out about 2nd Sam 9 and to increase the number of clients that we serve. We continue to strive to let God lead us as we make important decisions for the program, allowing this to be His program and not ours” said Connie Hart, 2nd Sam board secretary.

2nd Sam 9 is free to the participants and operates solely on donations.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.
