A Pittsburgh woman was arrested Monday on a fugitive warrant after she reportedly failed to pay an East Bethlehem Township funeral home for her husband’s funeral almost three years ago.

Janet Sue Barlow, 46, is accused of failing to pay Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank St., the $5,342 cost of the funeral for her husband, John Barlow. She also allegedly used a fake check to pay for a down payment on the services.

The funeral director gave her a statement for the services in the amount of $5,342.67, and she wrote the check for $1,460, police said.

The check was returned to the funeral home from Southwest Bank, which said Barlow did not have an account there. A fraud department manager with the bank told township police Chief Mark Pompe the font used on her check did not match that used by the bank, and the zip code used on the check was for Aberdeen, S.D. The routing number also was bogus, the bank said.

Funeral home employees tried several times to contact Barlow but had no success, police said.

Barlow was declared a fugitive a year ago by District Judge Joshua Kanalis. She was arraigned Monday before Kanalis on charges of forgery, bad checks, theft by deception, theft and receiving stolen property. She was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A hearing is set for Jan. 24 before Kanalis.
