A 20-year veteran North Franklin Township police officer was appointed chief of the department.

Ron Fox was promoted at a township supervisors meeting Tuesday from the rank of sergeant to replace former police Chief Rick Horner, who retired Oct. 28

Fox said he will continue to modernize the department in keeping with the direction established by Horner.

“He brought us back from nothing to having computers in our cars,” Fox said. “We have excellent officers.”

Supervisor Martha Ward said the appointment should settle a grievance the police union filed last year after the prior board of supervisors didn’t appoint a new chief within the time set in the labor contract with the officers.

The supervisors also placed part-time officer Dave Borkowski into a full-time position in the department.

Supervisors Chairman Silvio Passalacqua said Fox was next in line to become chief of the department of six full-time officers.

“I think he’s going to be great,” Passalacqua said. “He gets along with everyone and is very cooperative.”
